NAPC at General Assembly, Minneapolis, MN, July 3-10, 2010

We will have a booth in the Exhibit Hall, and a luncheon on Thursday, July 8. We hope you will come and join us. The luncheon speaker will be the Rev. Canon Peg Chemberlin.

The Rev. Canon Peg Chemberlin is Executive Director of the Minnesota Council of Churches and the president of the National Council of Churches of Christ. The NCC has 35 member denominations and more than 45 million constituents. She is the first person elected from a state council of churches position. Her focus there is governance, relationships with local and regional ecumenism and anti-poverty work. The PCUSA is a member of the NCC.

As executive director of the Minnesota Council of Churches she has galvanized the relationships of it constituent members, brought the council to be a predominate actor for the faith community in other sectors, and increased its budget more than five-fold.

Chemberlin was a member of the first White House Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, under President Obama. Her relationships with the White House and the Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships of the 12 federal departments are strong and growing.  

Her past professional experience includes: director of statewide, multi-million dollar anti-hunger program, director of campus ministries; elementary, junior high and college teaching; congregational ministry. 

She has served as president and national program chair for the National Association of Ecumenical and Inter-religious Staff. She was the Honorary Chair of the 2003 Minnesota FoodShare Campaign.  

Chemberlin graduated from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, where she was awarded the academic prize for historical theology. In 2008 she received the school's Distinguished Alumni award.  

She has received the N.O.V.A. award for peace and justice, the Angel of Reconciliation award, and the Governor's Award for Women of Excellence.
