The Beginning Years of NAPC

"In 1985 a group of clergywoemn from Seattle surveyed clergywomen across the country to determine interest in a national organization.  The positive response led to the first national conference in the fall of 1986.  Fifty clergywomen attended the first triennial November 2-6, 1987 at Stony Point, New York, Conference Center."

 "The National Steering Committee of NAPC held its first planning meeting March 26-28, 1988 at Princeton Seminary.  During this time together, the By-Laws were finalized, plans were formulated for the 1990 Triennial conference and a budget was established.  Important time was also spent in brainstorming ideas for a brochure newsletter and recruiting regional representatives." The first Annual Dinner of Clergywomen  was held during the 201st General Assembly on Wednesday, June 7th, 1989.
The speaker was Rev. Dr. Patricia McClurg, Associate Executive for Mission in the Presbytery of Elizabether and the Preseisent of the National Council of Churches.
